Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” is undoubtedly one of the most iconic songs of all time. It’s a timeless classic that continues to inspire new generations of musicians and fans alike. The song’s driving beat is undoubtedly one of its most memorable features.

From the very first notes of the song, Sugarfoot’s drumming sets the tone. The iconic hi-hat pattern is executed flawlessly, giving the song its signature groove. Throughout the track, Sugarfoot’s playing is tasteful and precise, never overpowering the other instruments but always driving the song forward.

Playing live with three kick drums is not an easy task, and it requires an incredible amount of skill and precision. Jonathan Moffett is a master of this technique, and he executes it flawlessly in his performance of “Billie Jean”. Let’s take a closer look at how he does it.

  1. Billy Jean ,, one of my favorite song in my prime .
    Good drummer 👏👏👏
You deserved to be .. best drummer award 🥇
    The legend : Billie Jean
Hope you continue success sir … I salute you

  2. As a drummer people ask me what the hardest beat to play. I always say Billie Jean because he proves it here. How to groove with that feel and keep the pocket pushing forward for 4 minutes straight without deviating or tripping up. Basic beat turned into a master class! Love iT!

  3. I can honestly say that I have never enjoyed watching someone playing the 8-beat for 6 minutes straight. Until now. And holy cow those one handed cymbal hit/mute manoeuvres and the that wacky triple pedal system in the "outro" really caught me off guard. I expected excellence, which was delivered, but I didn't expect to learn something new.

  4. No disrespect for Mr. Moffett's performance, but let's not forget that it was Ndugu Chancler who actually played the iconic drums on the song "Billie Jean".
