Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” is undoubtedly one of the most iconic songs of all time. It’s a timeless classic that continues to inspire new generations of musicians and fans alike. The song’s driving beat is undoubtedly one of its most memorable features.
From the very first notes of the song, Sugarfoot’s drumming sets the tone. The iconic hi-hat pattern is executed flawlessly, giving the song its signature groove. Throughout the track, Sugarfoot’s playing is tasteful and precise, never overpowering the other instruments but always driving the song forward.
Playing live with three kick drums is not an easy task, and it requires an incredible amount of skill and precision. Jonathan Moffett is a master of this technique, and he executes it flawlessly in his performance of “Billie Jean”. Let’s take a closer look at how he does it.

Og killin it
Professional, disciplined, extraordinair. Great drummer.
What a workout, how did he remember all the fills? Would love to see the original drummer do it live.

Took me way back in time my friend. Thank you for this timeless adventure through space and time. This will transcend humanity. 🙏😇🙏
Man!.. the sound of that bass of the kick drums. Just kept me on going! 😮 Incredible sound! Sugar-Foot.
I think I enjoy watching Neil Peart or Stewart Copeland
Me a guitarist, dont know drum stuffs.
"Why he's being called sugarfoot? It's a simple kick pattern right?"
But I got a sweet toothache at 6:22
WATCH TO THE END! BEAST!
SMOOTH
As a drummer people ask me what the hardest beat to play. I always say Billie Jean because he proves it here. How to groove with that feel and keep the pocket pushing forward for 4 minutes straight without deviating or tripping up. Basic beat turned into a master class! Love iT!
You can see the same joy while he playing.
My glock wants to change the sound it makes when it fires to this Jonathan's snare sound…..:) much love!
Oj killing it on drums
Holy shit. I always thought this was a drum machine. Every note is perfect.
TIME MACHINE
Never seen anything like that. Wow. Excellent.
Badd ass. Can't put it any other way. Dude looks like pure power..
The Man is simply, Incredible!
That is a mean drum Solo mixed with that smooth criminal tease at the end 😮🎇
I'm actually in awe at the skill of this man…. Absolute legend!!
This is the reason why I hate 4×4 rock beats. SO BORING
I have been waiting for this so I could add it to the playlist!! Thank you!!! ❤
goated
Play Who is it please!!!!!
Ok…seems simple enough.
I am blown away 😍
That head movement is awesome
I can honestly say that I have never enjoyed watching someone playing the 8-beat for 6 minutes straight. Until now. And holy cow those one handed cymbal hit/mute manoeuvres and the that wacky triple pedal system in the "outro" really caught me off guard. I expected excellence, which was delivered, but I didn't expect to learn something new.
No disrespect for Mr. Moffett's performance, but let's not forget that it was Ndugu Chancler who actually played the iconic drums on the song "Billie Jean".
Wow. I mean, wwwow.
So crisp, flawless and still timeless.
That snare was 🔥🔥🔥
Wow Que powerful amazing sound
O som de bateria mais inconfundível, imitado, escutado, simples, e perfeito da história da música global
Loved it 🔥❤️🔥Thank You Sir!
That snare delivers like a gunshot! The ending was a treat!!!✌🏼❤️
Legend!
👍🥁🎧
It's unusual to see a professional level drummer using 5 different brands of cymbals.
Is that just what was on hand at the studio?
Why is his kit so big? He needs like a 3 piece. The poor drum tech.
