Fun reaction! Taeyang is still a member of the legendary group Bigbang. You can check out Taeysng's Ringa Ringa and Good Boy of the GD x YB subunit of Bigbang comprised by Taeyang and Gdragon. Taeyang and Gdragon were initially supposed to debut as a rap duo but the YG CEO ended up teaming them up with 3 others. Taeyang became the main vocalist and main dancer. Gdragon who is Taeyang's best friend is Bigbang's leader, rapper, songwriter and producer. Gdragon and T.O.P are unbeatable rappers who can also sing beautifully.

Actually, thanks to western music, we have this Taeyang now.
I mean, BIGBANG, Taeyang's group, introduced, popularized and integrated RNB/HIPHOP into KPOP that's why you have hiphop heavily influenced KPOP now.
Western artists like Usher, Neyo, Omarion, B2K. MJ, WutangClan, etc. influenced BIGBANG members. And because of that, influenced the next generations of kpop idols. Hence, the current kpop.
It just so happens that the quality of western music nowadays is not legendary as it was before.
