  1. Yeah I would love for you to check out their correspondence with their fans and/or a video where we can also see a live audience, the interviewer, or just other people in the same room with them. It’s important to have a comfortable setting, sincere questions, and a smooth flow from question to another to allow for an organic interview. To be honest the questions asked and setting didn’t present the members with a lot of opportunities to joke around and I believe they did well to relieve some of the tension and answer the questions.

And like everyone have said older kpop groups are known to be even more chaotic than what you’ve seen. This is because they were expected to attend variety shows and subsequently be funny on those shows. They are very comfortable with the audience and the audience have seen them do some outrageous things. The idols often don’t find the need to mince their words or act differently because they’re people that the audience feels like they personally know them or have seen them grow up. They have grown up with or before the current industry and are often pillars of the industry. Many are mc’s themselves, hosting shows, radio djs, actors, with sufficient solo activities that they are able to present themselves and lead others regardless of whether they are the leader or not.

  2. something I notice about some kpop groups, ESPECIALLY second gen groups, is that they tend to act differently in US interviews. obviously here they're not answering in english (even though key is actually pretty fluent lol), but the energy is still quite different. US promotions for kpop groups weren't super common at this time, so they're certainly pretty contained here compared to some of the other videos they've done haha. still, I'd say this was pretty accurate!
you probably wouldn't be able to guess that onew is actually the leader, since he's much more on the quiet side, at least compared to the rest of the group. he kinda lets them do the talking sometimes. jonghyun, key, and minho are all pretty outgoing. jonghyun is known for being very well spoken and hosted a radio program for a few years, along with his other solo events. key is known for being pretty funny and is on a lot of different variety shows in korea, and he doesn't really like to sugarcoat things, so you were kinda right about him not wanting to be there lol. minho does variety shows pretty often as well, and is also an actor and just generally extraverted person.
taemin is actually pretty introverted, but it's always easy to tell that he's very comfortable with shinee. taemin is the youngest and was only 14 when they debuted, so the other members still baby him a lot. he almost seems younger when he's with them compared to some other environments lol.

  3. What's funny is that Key is actually the social butterfly and Taemin is very introverted. Also Onew is the leader but he is very shy. His style is to typically hang back and let the others shine.

It's also interesting that you mention how how "serious" they seemed in this video. Ususlly they are one of the more "chaotic" groups. I think it's because they were really nervous as this was like one of their 1st interviews they ever did in the US and – they touched on this in the video as well – they were jet lagged too.

  4. This was their Soompi interview before their fanmeet in Chicago. This was the only time I saw them live. They were extremely jetlagged. They literally took a red-eye flight over night landed in Chicago grabbed a Chicago deep dish pizza, checked in their hotel then headed straight to the Rosemont Theatre.

They were amazing though! They truly gave their all despite the massive time change and everything. Best mother's day I've ever had. My daughter got to see Jonghyun (she's a blinger) and she got a wink and a wave from Minho.

  5. It's great to see people still reacting to Shinee's old videos with all the 5 members in it, It was a great reaction♥️👏🏻

  6. I agree that Minho is naturally charismatic. he is also physically the biggest in the group so he pops out even more, particularly since they had him sit in the front.

  7. Actually wanna appreciate your kindness towards SHINee 5. And something that wanna tell Onew is the leader. He's someone who always put others front and keep himself behind them and guide them. So yeah…as you said they are the best and professional idols ever. Thank you for your support 💪🏻💎

  8. I think for Taemin, when he is around people he knows well and trust, he can be very chaotic and very extroverted sometimes, but most of the time he is very introverted.
He is introverted but he really likes attention, that's what I'm getting while watching Taemin's videos
Also there is a video of Taemin talking about his MBTI and I know MBTI is..not that accurate but still.

  9. If you wanna see the answer to your question of 2nd Gen are more chill, please check out Super Junior doing “Would You Rather” with Buzzfeed!

  10. few minutes in, you already got taemin at the mischievous one lol (but he's not a social butterfly) and it's true, the members laugh at anything he says. i agree that minho is the most confident and jonghyun the best communicator. i know a few people who had mistaken jjong as the leader because he was the most vocal in interviews. i think that key may have been having an off day (and maybe because in this interview he also doesn't have to be the english speaker for the group, but i don't really know. i think that you did a good read of onew.

  11. Taemin is the maknae so you’ll find them reacting to things that he does since his hyungs dote on him a lot and he has a no filter tendency (which in the beginning stemmed from awkwardness but i think he leaned into it as he got older and just doesn’t bother lol)

Key doesn’t sugar coat things and can be very blunt (which softened as he got older too but his face can’t lie lol)

Jinki is more reserved but I wouldn’t describe him as serious or stoic at all. Hes a leader that lets the members take control/attention and keeps them in check when they get distracted. There’s a clip where minho describes his leadership perfectly I hope you stumble across it.

  12. Random fact for you – Minho was one of the main characters in Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth. BTS's Taehyung was also in this series and they became friends through it. It was filmed in 2016 so maybe that is what Jongyun was referring to (not sure when this interview occurred). I didn't even realize Minho was a k-pop star until after watching the show and wanting to find out more about some of the amazing actors.

  13. Key's the diva but has a heart of gold. He truly loves his members and is especially caring towards Taemin like a mum would.

Speaking of chaos, the older the group, the more genuinely chaotic cos they know each other so well, and couldn't heck putting up pretenses anymore cos they are older and more experienced. They would even diss the company. To see real chaos, you should check out some of Super Junior's (Suju for short) youtube content

  14. When Kpop groups do these interviews there are usually multiple interviews back to back, they most likely just got off the plane that day or day before and they are getting ready for a concert/performance, so They are very tired and most likely tired of answering the same questions over and over again. Also, since the interviews are back to back each member usually takes the lead on different interviews and (I am not say he is but) there is a chance that Onew is holding his arm because he has an injury.

  15. Jonghyun was really caring and communication was one of his most important things in life. Either communicating himself on his radio show or through his music.
KEY here is just tired, but he's also the nonchalant type.
Everything you said about Taemin and Minho is spot on.
While ONEW, is just an awkward introvert and also the oldest and leader of the group🤣🤣

  16. You certainly picked up on the fact that they don't want to be there! These poor guys were so jet-lagged in this interview, so it's hard to make a fair assessment, I think. Jonghyun even makes mention of it at one point. Watch any of their lives, and you will see that these guys are hot messes! And, the love they have for each other is so genuine and true. I think your other analysis of them really shows who they are better. You definitely nailed Key's personality here and Minho's confidence. Key is hilarious, sarcastic, takes no BS, and would never be able to play poker because he absolutely cannot hide his feelings or keep a straight face. He's very quick-witted; love his comebacks. It shows his emotional intellect. Minho is one of the most all-around gifted people. He is kind, thinks of others before himself, humble while still confident, has a great sense of humor, and is a perfectionist. He's one of those guys who can do anything, but still strives to do things harder, better, faster, stronger, with more passion no matter what. He could be full of himself, because of his physical attributes, but instead he's so incredibly genuine and thoughtful. I think Onew is guarded, but really funny and exudes a quiet strength that has kept this group together through some really dark times. Taemin is Taemin. What else you can say about him? He's impish, mischievous, sensitive, and has an incredible innocence about him (except on stage!). Jonghyun is all about wearing his heart on his sleeve. He felt everything to his core. One of the most talented artists I have ever seen and such a gentle soul.

  17. I think the fact that you didn’t know about Jonghyun before filming makes this video even better, there’s so many people out there just trying to make everything sad and watching your video was really refreshing! Thank you so much, as a shawol I really loved this.

  18. him immediately picking up on taemin's gremlin energy from this interview 👀
this is maybe one of the worst/most boring interviews with shinee that Exists (that i've watched anyway lmao) so i hope u watch some others, maybe some other shows they've been on or something? they really are entertainers, but I think they're a bit out of their comfort zone/very jetlagged in the us

  19. The older gens are THE MOST chaotic because at that time idol image wasn't as strictly controlled in every way as it can be now, it just doesn't always show depending on the settings. Interviews like this one are not really a context of having fun I guess, they get crazy when in situations where they can just do whatever and play, in concerts or shows, by themselves or with fans but I guess not much in a room with only journalists/interviewers/staff that are here for their job

  20. If you wanna see the fun/chaotic side of the members, you should watch for their vlives or for variety shows, key especially is such a character and has quite a big presence in Korean entertainment shows. And Minho as you said is a "superstar" cause he's not only an idol but also an actor, an athlete, and very much a national symbol (I mean shinee as a kpop group is considered a national treasure too so)

  21. Minho is actual LMK y the cheerleader of the group. He goes to all members' activities.. he knows all their sched despite the fact that he himself is super busy. In addition he also has loads of friends outside the group and is one the few male idol who can interact with female idols without being bashed. You should check out this video of minho with girls generation..minho is often called as their fave brother because he becomes a child when he is with them.and that confidence is maybe partly because of the fact that he is a gifted athlete. He does soccer basketball swimming athletics pilates and golf. Yes the guy can do no wrong

  22. "Is Onew the youngest?" Yes, my guy ..he our fake maknae leader.
I find your video quite interesting because everyone is an extrovert in SHINee leaving Taemin. He clearly represents introverts in presence of their friends..totally chaotic

  23. lmao they were jet lagged as HELL for this interview 😭😭 i find it so funny how we all know nobody wanted to be there in that moment but i appreciate them sm for still squeezing this interview into their schedule bc it was rare for them to address their US fans. i def recommend watching their Entertainment Weekly interviews here on YouTube officially subbed by KBS World! :)) You’ll get to see more of their personalities seeping through because they’re joking around, doing activities, and NOT jet lagged hahaha

  24. It's just the SHINee boys barely keeping their chaotic nature inside. They're dying trying to keep themselves from rolling on the floor. Laughing their asses off.

  25. I think the reason Taemin is able to make the members smile the most is because he’s unintentionally funny. He comes out with the weirdest things sometimes, like “I once ate an ant that was passing by”. But yes, he’s their baby and they’ve always doted on him. He has a few other friends that he’s really close with as well (a Korean tabloid once tried to expose him for being in a relationship with Exo’s Kai, but they’re just very close friends). Most other people he’s quite awkward with, apart from his manager, his back-up dancers and other staff members who he’s worked with for many years
