For Leighan Falley, Alaska is more than home — it’s a calling. Leighan spent years as a ski guide and climber on the Alaskan range, focusing much of her energy on Denali. But after becoming a mother, she found herself unwilling to pursue guiding (and the dangers that come with it), instead taking to the skies as mountain pilot. Follow Leighan on the Alaskan adventures that enrich her life and legacy in Denali’s Raven.

  1. I got the privilege of being one of her passengers this summer on a flightseeing tour into Denali Base Camp to pick up some climbers. Her experiences added so much to ours as she guided us through the Alaska Range. A truly remarkable lady!

  2. I have been fortunate to fly with some great Alaskan bush pilots, best memories are flying with Jim Okonek previous owner of k2 out of Talkeetna landing up in Ruth gorge at 5200ft in a cloudless day next to the Don Sheldon,s hit and watching avalanches come down the south face of Denali, as well as flying with MichelleMasden out of Ketchikan Ak throughout Se Ak in her Dehavillend beaver floatplane, one of the best pilots Around, checkout Island wings air!

  3. This is a true story: I went to Pearl Creek with Leighan and the same baby sitter. One day I made up this lie about having cut myself some paper wings at my house that I was flying around the house with. Leighan was intrigued so I told her how she could cut some wings herself to fly around. She tried that night and said it didn't work. "Were they square wings?" I asked. "Yeah, why?" She asked. "Well, they only work with circle wings! That's why it didn't work!" Anyway, I'm pretty sure she told me about how she had spent the whole evening jumping off stairs at her house trying to make herself fly. Moral of the story: she got her wings and is actually flying around while I'm stuck to the ground still flapping my paper circles. I hope Leighan might see this comment some day; I don't have another way of contacting her.
