  1. His dad was against him being an idol so he had to go to school, do his homework, and practice at the company.
    Our Daesung worked so hard.
He deserves all the support and success.

  2. Daesung is amazing! His voice has a great range and his high notes are out of this world. There is a funny clip of the other members trying to hit his high note in Fantastic Baby. GD was jumping as he sang, hoping that would help him hit it, so hilarious!
But please check out rocker Daesung which to me is his best genre. That would be the performance of Ugly with Kang Seungyoon of Winner in YG Family concert 2014. The two best raspy rocker voices in kpop!

  3. It makes my heart happy seeing people react to this.Thank you! I love you reactions to this. And you are on point. He is such a great storyteller, sings with so much soul and passion.
Pls react to Candle/Fools only Tears live in BB Love Hope Tour 2011. The vocal trinity of BB is such a gem. Dae will knock your socks off with his amazing vocal range. You'll see what I mean hahaha

  4. it ain't the first time i watched this performance, but damn it always gives me the goosebumps everytime.

also it's funny that you mentioned making daesung the perfect mix of voice and good looks. when they were starting out, korea acknowledged that they were really good (they had 2 singles that g-dragon wrote, that became big hits) but that they weren't good-looking enough to be "idols". during the 2000s, the korean template for male beauty is tall (6ft or taller), fair-skinned (though they can be some shades "darker" than women), and with narrow faces.

at the start, bigbang was called the "ugly idols" lol (not helped by YG who publicly stated that he wanted a group guys with talent first and looks second). all of bigbang are below 6ft; the tallest is TOP (the rapper with deep voice) at 5'10"; the shortest is taeyang (the guy being carried by the dancers during the "taxi taxi" lyric) at maybe 5'4". to us people who've seen a wide range of skin colors, bigbang not being porcelain white is nothing to comment on, but when you see them together, seungri and g-dragon are the only ones that can be considered "fair-skinned" — top, daesung and taeyang are noticeably tanner.

about the narrow faces, only TOP may be considered conventionally handsome (but he was actually turned away during the auditions, though he was already rapping in clubs as a teenager, because he was obese, and had to lose weight first). G-dragon was also considered good-looking, but that was because he's the leader of the group, has swag, and is androgynous — which asians like in general. taeyang had to grow into his looks (he was short and can't talk to girls), but he has a very pop/rnb voice, dance skills, and loves working out; also, he's very earnest in interviews, which the general public like. seungri had to grow into his looks as well, literally — he's the youngest so he had to fill out first and develop his personality and skills.

Unfortunately, the korean public was very harsh with daesung. even the yg and the staff called him (something like) their "village boy" with a big voice; they meant it affectionately, but it's what the public thought about him too. to the public who was used to tall fair-skinned pretty boy idols, daesung's only good quality is his golden voice. but (and i had to learn this as well, because bigbang introduced me to the korean idol industry) being an idol is more than being a singer; it's essentially being an all-around celebrity.

so daesung had to make space for himself in bigbang (and bigbang had to make space for themselves in the industry). over time, daesung and seungri evolved to be the main spokespersons for the group (they're talkative, humorous, and read the room well). daesung is funny, not afraid to make fun of himself, and a hit with the ladies. also fortunately, there are a lot more varieties of korean idols nowadays.

lol sorry for the essay. but thank you for appreciating bigbang and daesung!
